Hummingbirds Love Red QuiltClick here to go directly to photos of: Front | Detail | Back This quilt is one that started as a boring pattern of quilt blocks in red, black and white. I had wanted to make a quilt with a hummingbird theme for a while, and when I connected the idea that hummingbirds love red to the colors in the quilt, it was a good match! I researched the different species of hummers and came up with several that fit the size restrictions of the design I wanted. Having placed the hummingbirds on the front of the quilt, I found that I had quite a few left over, so I put the extras on the back. The fabric that I used for the birds is an iridescent black that shows up nicely under appropriate lighting. The quilting pattern (the stitching that holds the three layers together) is done in white and forms a secondary pattern of hummingbirds. If you look closely you can see the “ghost” hummers… Quilt has two hanging sleeves, one on the top for hanging and one on the bottom for a weighted rod to keep the quilt hanging straight. The price includes a bag for storing the quilt in. Hummingbirds Love Red Quilt
